STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State track and field athletes Nick Miller and Kirubel Erassa compete at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Barcelona next week. Miller will represent his native Great Britain in the men's hammer throw on July 13 and 14 and Erassa will compete for Team USA in the men's 5,000 meter run on July 14.
Miller tops the Great Britain Under-20 rankings by more than four meters over his nearest rival with his throw of 72.80 meters/238-10, achieved with a six kilogram weight in Tulsa this season. It was the third-best throw in British athletics history for his age, and earned him qualification for Barcelona. He recently set an Oklahoma State school record when he launched a 7.26 kilogram hammer 67.56 meters/221-08 at the Hammerama meet in Scotland.
Erassa earned his spot on the team after winning the U.S. junior national championship in Bloomington, Ind., on June 15. The top two finishers in that race made Team USA for junior worlds. In winning the race, Erassa joined former teammate Colby Lowe as the only Oklahoma State track athletes to win U.S. junior national titles.
