Erassa Finishes 12th at World Juniors

BARCELONA, Spain - Oklahoma State's Kirubel Erassa competed this afternoon in the men's 5,000 meter run final at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain. His final time of 14:19.28 placed him 12th out of the 23 competitors.
The Grayson, Ga., native placed just ahead of teammate Kyle King to finish as the fastest American runner in the event. Saturday's performance marked Erassa's third-fastest 5K time this season.
The redshirt freshman distance runner qualified for World Juniors when he ran a 14:28.00 and won the USA Track and Field Junior national championship in the 5,000 meters on June 15. Erassa also put on a strong showing at the Big 12 Championships, placing fourth in the 1,500 meter with a time of 3:43.99 and ninth in the 5,000 meter with a time of 14:17.67.
His Cowboy teammate, Nick Miller, placed 25th at the World Juniors men's hammer throw qualifying round Friday morning with a throw of 67.46m/221-02.
