Stillwater, Okla. — Former Oklahoma State Cowboy and current Memphis Grizzly Tony Allen will host his 2012 Grit & Grind Basketball Skills Academy, along with Keith "the Shot Doc" Veney, July 18-20 inside Gallagher-Iba Arena on the OSU campus in Stillwater.
The Grit & Grind Basketball Academy will assist in the development of five basic basketball skills: shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding and defense. The camp will immerse youth in the sport, giving them the kind of focused intensive training that is essential to improvement. Their self-confidence will grow along with their skills and overall appreciation of the game.
Allen led the Cowboys to the Final Four in 2004 and was picked in the first round of the 2004 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics. He won an NBA Championship in 2008 while with the Celtics, and has spent the past two seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies. He was named to the NBA's All-Defensive team this past season.
The three-day camp is for youth, ages 10 through 17, and will run 9 am until 5 pm on Wednesday-Friday, July 18-20. Registration is available on-line at www.tonyallen9.com. For more information, interested parents can call Ella Allen at (312) 371-7793 or e-mail her at <ellaallen97@gmail.com>.
