USA U18 Team Advances to Gold Medal Game

Sao Sebastiáo Dos Paraiso, Brazil — Marcus Smart and the USA U18 National Team defeated Argentina 107-72 here Tuesday afternoon and will face host Brazil in the gold-medal game on Wednesday night in the FIBA Americas U18 Championships. Team USA defeated Brazil 83-64 on Monday. However, the Brazilians defeated Canada 66-62 in today's semifinal contest to advance to the gold-medal game.
Smart, an incoming freshman for the Oklahoma State men's basketball team, scored six points while grabbing four rebounds and dishing out three assists. He also had two steals with just one turnover in a team-high 22 minutes of playing time. He has 16 assists and 12 steals in the four games of the tournament.
Team USA is looking for its sixth gold medal, having won in 1990, 1994, 1998, 2006 and 2010. The Americans have already earned a qualifying berth in next summer's 2013 FIBA U19 World Championships. Tipoff for Wednesday's game is set for 6 pm CDT.
