USA U18 Team Dominates Mexico, 110-59

Sao Sebastiáo Dos Paraiso, Brazil — For the second-straight game, future Oklahoma State Cowboy Marcus Smart started for the USA U18 team at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship here Sunday afternoon as the Americans defeated Mexico 110-59 in their second game of the tournament.
Smart scored nine points against Mexico, connecting on 4-of-7 shots from the floor and 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. He also dished out four assists with no turnovers in just 12 minutes of play. Smart once again led the Americans on defense, grabbing a game-high four steals and blocking one shot.
The U.S. team dominated from the start, leading 32-12 after the first quarter. The Americans shot nearly 54 percent from the floor while limiting Mexico to just 33.3 percent. The USA squad also dominated the boards, outrebounding Mexico, 50-38. Lastly, Mexico committed 25 turnovers in the game.
Smart and the rest of his USA U18 team will conclude Group A preliminary-round action against host Brazil on Monday at 4 pm CDT. The game is available on-line at www.fibaamericas.com.
