Stillwater, Okla. — Chelsea Garcia, a senior on the Oklahoma State's Cowgirl softball team, has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Softball second team for Division I by the College Sports Information Directors of America, it was announced today.
Garcia, who was a first-team selection last season as a junior, has maintained a 3.97 grade point average while double majoring in both secondary education/mathematics and Spanish at Oklahoma State.
As successful as she has been in the classroom, Garcia has been lauded for her play on the softball diamond as well. She is a three-time All-Big 12 Second Team selection and was a first-team All-Midwest Region pick in 2011. She started a school-record 231 games — all at shortstop — in her four-year Cowgirl career.
The Moore, Okla., native is the 13th student-athlete in OSU history to twice be named an Academic All-American. She is the first two-time Academic All-American in softball since Lisa Harvey was selected in 1988 and '89.
