LAWRENCE, Kan.— The Oklahoma State softball team (15-12, 0-2) lost its second conference game to the Kansas Jayhawks (22-5, 2-3) by a score of 3-2 on Saturday afternoon. Senior Chelsea Garcia went 3-for-4 in the game and collected the 100th RBI of her career.
Ari Morrison started the game off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Sammy Jo Diffendaffer pushed her over to third with a sacrifice bunt. Tamara Brown earned her 10th RBI of the season as she bunted toward first base to score Morrison from third. Garcia and Shelby Davis followed with back-to-back hits and Gessenia DeLaCruz loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch. However, Kelsey Anchors flew out to left field to end the first.
The KU starter, Kristin Martinez, came out after the first inning. She allowed two hits for one earned run and walked one. Morgan Druhan came in at the top of the second.
The Cowgirls kept the 1-0 lead until the bottom of the third. The Jayhawks led off with a walk and a bunt single. Both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt and advanced again on a sacrifice fly to deep center to tie the game at one. The next batter, Maggie Hull, hit her fifth home run of the season to make the score 3-1.
OSU's offense tacked on a second run in the top of the fifth as Morrison led off with her second walk of the game. After advancing two bases from a sacrifice bunt and a ground out, she scored when Garcia hit a single up the middle and picked up her 10th RBI of the year.
The Cowgirls started another rally in the seventh when Brown reached first on a two-out walk and Garcia followed with her third hit of the afternoon. But Davis was the third out with a strikeout to end the rally and the game.
Sophomore Simone Freeman started in the circle for the Cowgirls and gave up just three hits. She struck out four and walked two and the three runs were all earned. She is now 5-5 on the year.
Druhan (7-2) picked up the win for the Jayhawks after throwing five innings, allowing two hits for one earned run, striking out six and walking three. Alicia Pillie picked up her 3rd save of the season.
