Santa Barbara, Calif. — Kat Espinosa scattered six hits and threw her third shutout of the season as the Oklahoma State softball team defeated Wisconsin 1-0 here Sunday morning in the final game of the Gaucho Classic II. The Cowgirls improved to 15-10 on the season with the win.

Espinosa struck out eight Badger batters while walking none in the seven-inning contest. Wisconsin led off the game with back-to-back singles, but with one out, the junior pitcher struck out the next two batters to end the threat.

The Cowgirl offense was quiet through the first three innings, the lone hit a leadoff single by Ari Morrison in the bottom of the first. OSU had runners on base in each of those innings, collecting three walks off Wisconsin starter Cassandra Darrah.

With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, senior shortstop Chelsea Garcia had a base hit up the middle. After stealing second, Garcia scored on a hit to left field off the bat of senior Sammy Jo Diffendaffer. Diffendaffer was thrown out trying to stretch out a double, but the damage had been done for OSU.

The Badgers threatened again in the sixth. After a single, a sacrifice bunt and a groundout, Wisconsin had a runner on third with two outs. However, Espinosa struck out designated player Molly Spence looking for the final out.

Oklahoma State will host Tulsa on Tuesday, March 20, before opening Big 12 Conference action on Friday as the Cowgirls travel to Lawrence, Kan., to take on the KU Jayhawks. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 7 pm.
