Future Cowboys Win State Title

Austin, Texas — Phil Forte scored a game-high 24 points en route to Most Valuable Player honors, as he and Marcus Smart led the Flower Mound Marcus Marauders to their second-straight Class 5A state championship in Austin on Saturday night. FM Marcus defeated Fort Bend Travis 56-52 in the title game.
Forte connected on a pair of three-pointers in the first quarter, but it was his 6-of-6 shooting from the free-throw line in the final period that earned him MVP honors.
Marcus Smart, also an OSU signee who has been named a McDonald's All-American, was extremely active in the game, scoring 15 points while grabbing eight rebounds. He also dished out five assists and had five steals. Smart was the MVP of the 2011 tournament when Marcus defeated Lakeview Centennial 40-38 in the title game.
The Marauders finished the season at 39-2 and are ranked No. 2 nationally according to MaxPreps Xcellent 25 presented by the Army National Guard.
FM Marcus has made the state tournament the last three seasons, and has compiled a record of 115-6 during that span.
