Smart Named McDonald's All-American

Oak Brook, Ill. — Oklahoma State signee Marcus Smart is one of 24 high school seniors listed on the 2012 McDonald's All-American rosters and will compete for the West Team at the 35th annual McDonald's All-American High School Basketball Games, it was announced today.
"We are very excited for Marcus and his family, and very proud of Marcus for all of his accomplishments in high school," said OSU head coach Travis Ford. "He's very much deserving of all his accolades and awards. He's one of the hardest-working players I've ever been around and one of the most unselfish players I've known. He's a guy who deserves everything that comes his way."
Smart is the fifth Cowboy signee in the last eight seasons to be named a McDonald's All-American, joining Byron Eaton and Gerald Green, both McDonald's All-Americans in 2005, James Anderson, a 2007 McDonald's All-American, and Le'Bryan Nash, a McDonald's All-American in 2011.
A native of Flower Mound, Texas, Smart attends Marcus High School, along with Cowboy signee Phil Forte. The 6-4, 220-pound guard ranks as the No. 2 high school player in the country according to HoopScoop magazine, and is the No. 14 overall player in the nation according to Rivals.com.
Smart is currently averaging 13.8 points, nine rebounds and 4.8 assists per game as a senior. This season, Flower Mound Marcus is 29-2 overall, ranked No. 1 in Class 5A in the state of Texas, and the Marauders are the No. 9-ranked team nationally in the USA Today Super 25.
He is one of four players who have signed with Big 12 schools that has been named a McDonald's All-American. Others are Perry Ellis, a Kansas signee from Wichita, Kan., Isaiah Austin, a Baylor signee from Arlington, Texas, and Cameron Ridley, a Texas signee from Houston, Texas.
The McDonald's All-American games will be played at the United Center in Chicago on March 28. The girls' game will start at 6:30 pm CT (ESPNU) while the boys' game will tip off at 8:30 pm CT and be televised on ESPN.
