STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's basketball team snapped its three-game losing streak on Wednesday night with a 53-49 win over Texas Tech in front of 2,037 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
With the win, the Cowgirls improved to 13-7 overall and 5-6 in Big 12 play. Texas Tech dipped to 16-7 and 4-7.
In what served as a defensive struggle the entire night, the Cowgirls held the Lady Raiders to just two points through the first nine minutes of the contest. However, OSU could manage just a 9-2 lead. The Cowgirls used an 8-2 run to build a double-digit lead with less than six minutes left in the half, but Tech was able to close within 24-18 at the break.
In the second half, the Lady Raiders got within a possession at 33-31 with 10:43 to go before OSU scored seven of the game's next eight points to build an eight-point cushion.
The Cowgirls led by six with 29 seconds remaining before Tech got a 3-pointer to trim the margin back to 49-46. OSU sophomore Tiffany Bias hit a pair of free throws before another Lady Raider trey cut the margin to two with six seconds left. However, Bias answered with two more free throws to provide the final margin.
Tech's Chynna Brown led all scorers with 16 points, while four Cowgirls reached double figures.
Freshman Liz Donohoe and junior Toni Young each scored 11 points, while Bias and freshman Jordan Schultz each had 10.
The Cowgirls will be back in action on Saturday at 7 p.m. when they travel to Austin, Texas to face the Texas Longhorns.
