HOUSTON, TEXAS — The 11th-ranked Oklahoma State softball team shut out Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 4-0 here Sunday morning to wrap up the Hilton Houston Classic and improve to 4-1 on the season.
The Cowgirls had a big first inning when they scored four runs off four hits. Ari Morrison and Kelsey Anchors led off with back-to-back hits. Chelsea Garcia loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch. Tamara Brown hit a single to right field and scored Morrison from third. Gessenia DeLaCruz scored Anchors when she also hit a single into right field. Brown would eventually score from an illegal pitch and DeLaCruz would score on an Islander error.
Sophomore Simone Freeman (2-0) threw the complete game for the Cowgirls. She allowed no runs on six hits, stuck out nine and walked only two.
Oklahoma State will play again next weekend in the ACC/Big 12/SEC Challenge hosted by Auburn.
