AUBURN, Ala. -- The 15th-ranked Oklahoma State softball team dropped two games in the first day of the ACC/SEC/Big 12 Challenge to Virginia Tech 3-0 and Auburn 8-0. The Cowgirls are now 4-3 on the season.

In the first game of the day, Virginia Tech scored all three of its runs in the fourth inning. After a passed ball, there were Hokies on second and third with one out. Kristen Froehlich and Kelsey Mericka followed with back-to-back singles to score two runs. After a wild pitch advanced a runner to third, Logan Spaw hit a sacrifice fly to deep center and the runner scored.

The Cowgirls out-hit the Hokies five hits to three, however they were unable to string enough together to score a run. Sophomore Simone Freeman threw for the Cowgirls. She gave up three hits for three earned runs, struck out one and walked one. She is now 2-1 on the season.

The second game of the day was scoreless until the fourth inning when Lauren Guzman hit a two-run home run for the Tigers. The next inning, Auburn scored another six runs off a sacrifice fly, an RBI-single and two home runs. Auburn scored six of its eight runs off home runs.

The Cowgirls managed seven hits off the Tiger pitching staff, but none were enough to score a run. Junior Kat Espinosa picked up her second loss of the season after giving up eight hits for eight earned runs, striking out one and walking one.

Oklahoma State will continue play tomorrow against No. 23 Georgia Tech at 5:30 p.m.
