Cowgirls Wrap Up First Day at Lakewood Ranch

Oklahoma State's women's tennis team completed the first day of competition at the Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic on Friday.
It was a rough opening day for the Cowgirls, going 1-2 in doubles play and 1-5 in singles. In doubles competition, Malika Rose and Kanyapat Narattana fell to Lyn Yee Choo and Anna Gerbasi of Eastern Tennessee State in the second round of the main draw. Cowgirls Meghan Blevins and C.C. Sardinha won their first doubles match of the day, defeating Mississippi State's Petra Ferancova and Georgiana Patrasc 9-8. Blevins and Sardinha would go on to be defeated in the second round match by Courtney Collins and Kelly Gray of Memphis.
In singles play, Meghan Blevins won her first round match against Caroline Wegner of Memphis 6-1, 6-4 to advance to the second round where she was defeated by Mississippi State's Georgiana Petrasc. Freshman Maria Alvarez fell to Mimi Fotopolous in two sets in her first round match. C.C. Sardinha was forced to retire in her match against Lien Van Geel of Mississippi State, giving Van Geel the win. Malika Rose also fell short in her match against Kelly Gray of Memphis 6-4, 6-4. Junior Kanyapat Narattana lost her first round match to Liza Tymchenko of Memphis 6-3, 6-2.
