Cowgirls to Compete at ITA Regional Championships

ITA Central Championships
Oklahoma State's women's tennis team will compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships at the Case Center in Tulsa, Okla., this weekend. Action is set to begin on Thursday, Oct. 18 and wrap up on Monday, Oct. 22. The tournament will be hosted by the University of Tulsa.
All five Cowgirls on the roster will be competing in the singles bracket this weekend. The tournament also features two OSU doubles teams, including the tandem of Malika Rose and Kanyapat Narattana. C.C. Sardinha and Meghan Blevins will be competing in doubles this weekend as well.
Last Time Out
Earlier this month, the Cowgirl doubles team of Rose and Narattana made an appearance at the ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., to compete in the tournament's main draw. Rose and Narattana defeated the No. 35-ranked doubles team in Julianna Rodin and Agustina Sol Eskenazi of Penn 8-5 in their first event to advance to the round of 16. The duo fought hard in its next match, but came up short against USC's Sabrina Santamaria and Kaitlyn Christian, the top-ranked doubles team in the nation.
The remainder of the Cowgirl Tennis team traveled to Colorado Springs, Colo., to compete in the United States Air Force Academy Invitational. The highlight of the weekend was freshman Maria Alvarez winning her singles flight when she defeated Julia Jamieson of Illinois in two sets in the final round to take the bracket's top spot. OSU sophomore Meghan Blevins also had a good tournament, making it to the finals in her bracket before falling 7-6(5), 6-0 to Liudmila Vasilieva of Washington State to finish second in the bracket. Senior C.C. Sardinha made it to her bracket's semifinals before suffering an injury in the second set of her match against Texas Tech's Nikki Sanders and was forced to withdraw. Sanders would go on to win the bracket.

Cowgirls in the Rankings
The Cowgirl doubles team of Rose and Narattana will head into Regionals as the highest ranked doubles team in the Central region, sitting at No. 14 in the ITA women's doubles rankings. In the singles rankings, Rose holds the No. 101 spot, and C.C. Sardinha is ranked No. 97.
Eyeing the Opponents
This weekend, OSU will compete against several teams from around the Central region, including Arkansas, Arkansas State, Bradley, Central Arkansas, Collin College, Creighton, Drake, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota, Missouri, Missouri-Kansas City, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oral Roberts, Saint Louis, South Dakota, South Dakota State, Southern Illinois-Carbondale, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, Tulsa, Western Illinois, and Wichita State. The field combines to include 11 players ranked in the ITA preseason singles rankings and seven doubles teams ranked in the preseason doubles rankings.
