Cross Country Holds Steady in Midwest Region

STILLWATER- The Oklahoma State men's cross country team continues to hold the top spot in the Midwest Region, and the women remain at No. 2, according to this week's United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association regional poll, released this morning.
The Cowboys continue to hold off No. 2 Oklahoma. This week's poll saw the addition of UKMC and Nebraska, entering at 14th and 15th, respectively.
The Cowgirls remained at No. 2 behind leader Iowa State. Illinois jumped from No. 7 up to fourth and Kansas State entered the poll at No. 14.
Both teams are coming off winning their third-straight Cowboy Jamboree on Saturday. The Cowboys took five of the top 10 spots. Shadrack Kipchirchir led the way, sprinting away with the individual championship with a time of 24:29.17, .09 seconds ahead of UTEP's Anthony Rotich. Joseph Manilafasha (24:35.29) finished in third place, crossing the finish line just ahead of teammate Girma Mecheso (24:42.25). Fabian Clarkson (24:55.42) finished in sixth. Kirubel Erassa (24:58.42) finished in ninth place and Brian Gohlke (24:59.26) rounded out the top 10.
For the Cowgirls, sophomore Monika Juodeskaite finished in third place with a time of 17:25.71. Senior Kate Kujawa finished in seventh place with a time of 18:07.20 and senior Jackie Campos (18:14.88) crossed the finish line in 10th place.
Both teams return to the course on Oct. 13 when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to compete in the Chile Pepper Invitational.
