Oklahoma State Head Coach Jim Littell
Opening statement
"Credit Kansas State for playing very well defensively. They did a good job of taking us out of a lot of things that we did. I take responsibility that our team didn't come out with the energy that you need to compete in the Big 12, for the first 30 minutes. I was proud of our players, the way they came back in the last 10 minutes and responded, but you can't did yourself such a big hole in the Big 12 and expect to respond. Brittany Chambers had an unbelievable night. She hit tough shots. A lot of that was heavily contested, and a lot of it was due to some of our defensive mistakes. You have to credit K-State that they shot the ball extremely well. I think they shot 58 percent from three in the first half, and it got us behind."
On if this was an example of inconsistency from a young team
"I guess that's it; I don't want to believe that. You have to understand the nature of this league and how tough it is every night out. Kansas State was coming off three consecutive losses. We told our team they were going to come in here with a sense of urgency and we needed to match that sense of urgency. It appears that after a great win against A&M, we didn't handle prosperity very well, and hopefully we'll learn from that."
On what adjustments the team made to make a run at the end
"Just start playing hard. We started playing hard and started competing. I'm proud of (Tiffany Bias) because I thought she brought it the entire game. She played 37 minutes and she hustled and really competed tonight. I didn't have our group ready to play with the energy level that Tiff played at."
Guard Tiffany Bias
On why the energy was lacking
"I think we just didn't come out ready to play. We came off a big win and we had two good practices before this, and I think we just came out a little sluggish. You can't come out like that in the Big 12. I think we brought it the last 15 minutes, which you can't do because we already dug ourselves a hole. I think it's something that we learn from and we move on and get the next one."
On KSU's three-point shooting
"(Brittany Chambers) is a great shooter, so if you contest the shot, it's a great shot. There's some stuff we didn't do defensively that we should have done. I think we hurt ourselves by ourselves defensively. She had a heck of a night, so kudos to her. It just happens: she got hot."
Kansas State coach Deb Patterson
On the second half
“I thought we defended well early in the beginning of the second half. Also, on the offensive end we kept our focus and kept the intensity that we need to be competitive. It was great to see that because we hadn't done that in our last couple of losses. To see our team step up and just be so focused and determined to get back to that caliber of competitiveness was awesome.”
On the end of the game
“You have to continue to defend. They missed some shots during that segment, but we also didn't allow ourselves a lot of empty possessions. I think the game got a little tougher for us down the stretch when we werent able to distribute the ball extremely well just because of the nature of end game scenarios. We did doa good job of creating threes by getting some penetration passes and moving the ball side to side. To start the half that way really felt good.”
Tasha Dickey
On rebounding well
“I would credit that to our practices. Our big focus this week was rebounding and going to the rim and getting the ball. We did the best we could and I think it was pretty good.”
Brittany Chambers
On rebounding
“That was our focus all week and that's part of being aggressive, not just defensively. You're not going to finish defense if you're not rebounding. Especially on the 'o' boards. We can't win just shooting one shot. We relly tried to work on our rebounding this week and I think it showed a more aggressive team out there.”
