2011-12 Cowboy Basketball Schedule
Stillwater, Okla. -- The Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season-Tipoff, along with home games against every Big 12 opponent, highlight the 2011-12 Oklahoma State Cowboy Basketball schedule, announced today by head coach Travis Ford. Fifteen games are scheduled to be televised on the ESPN family of networks, including a New Year's Eve contest with Virginia Tech inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. Other non-conference home games include Tulsa on Nov. 30 and the first- and second-rounds of the NIT Season Tip-Off.
"This will be one of the tougher schedules in the country this season," Ford said. "The home schedule we've put together will present a great challenge. It will give our fans an opportunity to enjoy a lot of exciting basketball games right here in Stillwater. With every Big 12 team visiting Gallagher-Iba Arena, along with a home game against either ORU or UTSA, as well as games against Tulsa and Virginia Tech, this will be a very demanding and exciting schedule for our young basketball team.
"It is very important for us and our squad that the fans make Gallagher-Iba Arena the rowdiest arena in the country," said Ford. "We definitely need our fans to come out and support us at every home game. And, with the competitive ticket prices the athletic department has to offer, we need every seat filled to provide us with the best home court advantage in America."
Season tickets are now available for purchase and will include a total of 19 games for as little as $225, less than $12 per game. The base price for season tickets in the 300 level of Gallagher-Iba Arena is $275, but a four-pack (four seats in the 300 level) can be purchased for $900, equivalent to $225 per seat. A limited number of season tickets are also available in the 100 and 200 levels for a base price of $575 with an additional POSSE donation required based on the location of the section.
Oklahoma State will open the 2011-12 season with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday, Nov. 11, following a pair of exhibition contests against in-state foes on Nov. 2 (Panhandle State) and Nov. 6 (Oklahoma Baptist).
The following Tuesday, OSU will host the first and second round of the NIT Season Tip-Off. The Cowboys will play Arkansas-Pine Bluff in round one, and the second contest will pit a pair of former OSU players on the court as head coaches of their respective teams. ORU, coached by Scott Sutton, and UTSA, coached by Brooks Thompson, will play each other on Eddie Sutton Court. The next day, the winners will play with the opportunity to advance to the semifinals in Madison Square Garden in New York on the line. Both rounds of the NIT Season Tip-Off will be included in the OSU season ticket.
After the Thanksgiving break, the Cowboys will host the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in a non-conference matchup between the Cimarron Turnpike rivals. Oklahoma State will then play five-consecutive games away from Stillwater. It all starts with a road game against Missouri State in Springfield, Mo., on Dec. 7. Three days later, the Cowboys will travel to New York to play the Pittsburgh Panthers on a neutral court inside Madison Square Garden.
The 76th annual All-College Basketball Classic will take place on Sat., Dec. 17, in the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City. The Cowboys will also make a return trip for last year's matchup with Alabama by traveling to Birmingham, Ala., to face the Crimson Tide in a neutral-court contest on Dec. 21.
Following a short holiday break, OSU will travel to Dallas, Texas, to play SMU at the American Airlines Center on Dec. 28. The game is part of a doubleheader with Baylor facing Mississippi State in the second game. The Cowboys will end the non-conference portion of the schedule with a New Year's Eve matchup with Virginia Tech at 11 am on Dec. 31.
For the first time since the 1995-96 season, Oklahoma State will host every conference opponent inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. The Big 12 schedule includes 17 of 18 games being televised, either on the Big 12 Network or on the ESPN family of networks.
The Cowboys host Texas Tech to open league play on Wed., Jan. 4, followed by a road contest at Texas on Sat., Jan. 7. Round one of Bedlam will be in Stillwater on Mon., Jan. 9, as OSU hosts the Sooners in a game televised by ESPNU.
Back-to-back road games at Baylor (Jan. 14) and Iowa State (Jan. 19), will precede two home games against Kansas State (Jan. 21) and Missouri (Jan. 25). The BU game and the Mizzou contest will both be televised on ESPN2, while the game at Iowa State will air on ESPNU.
A pair of road contests in the Lone Star State on Jan. 28 (at Texas A&M) and Jan. 31 (at Texas Tech) will both be televised on the Big 12 Network. The Baylor Bears and Iowa State Cyclones will make return trips to Gallagher-Iba Arena on Sat., Feb. 4, and Tues., Feb. 7. The ISU game will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
The Cowboys will travel to Lawrence, Kan., to take on the Kansas Jayhawks on Sat., Feb. 11, followed by a road trip to Columbia, Mo., and a contest with the Missouri Tigers on Wed., Feb. 15. That game will be aired on ESPN2.
A home game with the Texas Longhorns on Sat., Feb. 18, precedes the second round of Bedlam on Wed., Feb. 22 in Norman. Oklahoma State wraps up the regular-season home schedule with Texas A&M on Sat., Feb. 25, and Kansas on Mon., Feb. 27. Both games will be televised by ESPN. The Pokes wrap up the regular season at Kansas State on Sat., March 3.
