Stillwater, Okla. -- Oklahoma State scored one run in the bottom of the first, but ninth-ranked Missouri scored five unanswered as the Tigers defeated the No. 20 Cowgirls 5-1 here Thursday afternoon in Big 12 softball action.

Cowgirl senior Mariah Gearhart led off the bottom of the first with an infield single. Ari Morrison laid down a sacrifice bunt and was safe on a throwing error by MU third baseman Nicole Hudson. Gearhart scored on a sacrifice fly by senior Alysia Hamilton, giving OSU a 1-0 lead.

Missouri responded with a two-run home run by Lisa Simmons in the top of the second as the Tigers went ahead, 2-1. A walk, an error, a double steal and a double by Hudson plated an unearned run for Mizzou in the top of the third. A sacrifice fly by Ashley Fleming made it 4-1 Tigers after three innings of play.

Oklahoma State threatened in the bottom half of the frame, loading the bases with singles by Gearhart and Morrison and a walk issued to Julie Ward with one out. However, Tiger starting pitcher Chelsea Thomas struck out the next two batters to end the inning. OSU had just one runner on base the final four innings.

The Cowgirl defense struggled as well, committing three errors in the game which accounted for three unearned runs. MU added a run in the fourth on a bunt single, an error, a sacrifice bunt and a sac fly for the 5-1 score.

Oklahoma State (37-15 overall, 8-8 Big 12) will travel to Lincoln, Neb., this weekend for a two-game series with the Nebraska Huskers. Games are set for 4:30 pm on Saturday and noon on Sunday.
