Stillwater, Okla. — Cezar Guerrero, a point guard out of St. John Bosco High School in California, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Oklahoma State, it was announced today by head coach Travis Ford.
"We're very excited to have Cezar as a part of our basketball family," Ford said. "He will be able to come in and help our team right away. He possesses a wide variety of skills. He's able to knock down the three-point shot, and he's a great ball handler and passer. Cezar is very good at making his teammates better and is a terrific leader. He has a great understanding and feel for the game. Our fans will enjoy watching him with his passion for years to come."
Guerrero is a four-star prospect according to Rivals.com and is rated as the 14th-best point guard in the country and the No. 61 player overall. He is the second-highest rated prep point guard to sign with a Big 12 school for the 2011-12 season.
The 6-0, 175-pound native of Bellflower, Calif., won the three-point competition at the inaugural 2011 National High School Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships in Houston, Texas, over Final Four weekend. He scored 19 points, defeating Wake Forest-bound Chase Fischer in the finals.
This past season, Guerrero was named the 2011 John R. Wooden Award High School Player of the Year of the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Division IV. He was also named the co-MVP of the Trinity League, which includes Santa Ana Mater Dei, the 11th-ranked high school team in America.
Guerrero was also a member of the Los Angeles Times' 10-member All-Star team, averaging nearly 28 points per game as a senior. He scored 48 points against Mater Dei, California's Division I champion. He scored 40 and 41 against Orange Lutheran, Division IV's top-ranked team, and averaged 34 points and five assists in league play.
Guerrero will join LeBryan Nash, the No. 4 ranked high school player in the country, in next year's incoming freshman class at Oklahoma State. The Cowboys' two-man class is ranked No. 24 according to ESPNU.com.
