STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's basketball team fell victim to a late rally by Kansas on Wednesday night en route to its third-straight defeat, suffering a 73-66 loss to the Jayhawks in front of 2,065 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The Cowgirls (15-11 overall, 3-10 Big 12) led for much of the contest, but never held an advantage of more than six points, allowing the Jayhawks (18-9, 5-8) to stay within striking distance.
Despite shooting 49 percent and holding a 24-11 rebounding advantage over KU in the first half, OSU was only able to take a 35-32 lead into the break. The Cowgirls got a productive 20 minutes from freshman Vicky McIntyre, who poured in 16 of her 18 points to help stake OSU to its three-point lead.
After sitting much of the first half with foul trouble, sophomore Toni Young scored 14 of her game-high 20 points after the intermission to keep the Cowgirls in front for the majority of the half. The Del City, Okla., native also pulled a game-high eight rebounds, but saw her double-double streak come to an end at four-straight games.
The Jayhawks took their first lead of the second half at the 5:55 mark on a jumper by Carolyn Davis that put them in front 54-53.
The two teams exchanged the lead on five of the game's next six possessions before back-to-back 3-pointers by KU with less than three minutes remaining put the Jayhawks in front for good. After Angel Goodrich drilled a trey at the 2:26 mark, Monica Engelman followed with one of her own a minute later.
Goodrich and Aisha Sutherland paced the Jayhawks with 14 points apiece.
The Cowgirls will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Lubbock, Texas to face Texas Tech at 5 p.m.
