COLUMBIA, Mo. - Oklahoma State's women's basketball team saw its two-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday night with a 71-65 overtime loss to Missouri in Columbia, Mo.
For the second-straight contest, the Cowgirls (15-9 overall, 3-8 Big 12) got off to a slow offensive start, hitting just two of their first 12 shots to trail the Tigers (12-13, 4-7) for much of the first half. Missouri led by as many as five behind the strength of four 3-pointers early on.
The Cowgirls found their touch to close out the half, hitting nine of their final 18 shots of the half and getting seven consecutive points from Vicky McIntyre to regain the lead at 23-21 with 9:14 remaining. OSU used a 6-0 run over the final three minutes of the half to take a 33-30 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Sophomore Toni Young nearly recorded her third consecutive double-double in the first half, logging 11 points and nine rebounds during the first 20 minutes. The Del City, Okla., native finished the contest with 22 points and a school-record 22 rebounds for her league-leading 12th double-double,
The Cowgirls extended their run with the first four points of the second half to push the lead to 37-30 before a 3-pointer from RaeShara Brown got the Tigers on the board five minutes into the half.
Freshman Kendra Suttles scored eight points over a two-minute stretch to stretch the Cowgirl advantage into double figures for the first time at 47-36 with 12:17 remaining in the contest.
OSU went scoreless over the final four minutes while the Tigers used an 11-0 run to tie the game at 54 apiece with 1:08 remaining. With 30 seconds remaining, Brown had a chance to put Missouri in front, but Young blocked her layup attempt and secured the rebound to give the Cowgirls one final crack in regulation.
After an OSU turnover, Brown's desperation 3-pointer rattled out to send the game to overtime.
The Cowgirls scored the opening bucket in the extra frame, but the Tigers scored the next nine to put the game away. OSU made just one of its eight free-throw attempts in the overtime period and finished eight of 21 for the game from the stripe.
