STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's basketball team used an outstanding shooting performance on Saturday afternoon to cruise to an 80-57 win over Nebraska in front of 2,473 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
After a 1-for-11 start put OSU (15-8 overall, 3-7 Big 12) in a 10-2 hole early in the contest, the Cowgirls hit 32 of their final 52 field-goal attempts to cruise to their second-straight conference victory.
After jumping out to their early eight-point lead, the Huskers (12-12, 2-8) scored just four points over the next 12 minutes, allowing the Cowgirls to use a 19-2 run to jump in front 21-12.
Nebraska opened the second half with five consecutive points to trim the OSU lead to 27-23, but the Cowgirls answered with a 12-0 run to regain momentum.
After their slow start in the first half, Period Two proved to be just the opposite for the Cowgirls. OSU caught fire from the floor, hitting 64 percent (21-of-33) and lighting up the scoreboard with 53 points.
For the game, OSU shot 52.4 percent from the floor for its best shooting effort against a Big 12 opponent since hitting at a 55.7 percent clip at Missouri on Feb. 10, 2007.
Sophomore Toni Young followed up a career-best outing against Texas Tech on Wednesday with another dominating performance on Saturday. Coming off a 30-point showing against the Lady Raiders, the Del City, Okla., native exploded in the second half, scoring 16 of her game-high 20 points to go with 11 rebounds for her Big 12-leading eleventh double-double of the year.
Young just missed recording the program's first-ever triple-double, finishing with eight blocked shots as well. The Cowgirl forward also logged a game-high three steals.
In just seven minutes of action, freshman Kendra Suttles scored 12 points, while senior Lakyn Garrison also finished in double figures with 11 points.
Freshman Tiffany Bias added eight points and eight assists to achieve a milestone of her own. The Andover, Kan., native became just the third OSU freshman over the past 30 years to reach the 100-assist mark.
Kaitlyn Burke led the Huskers with 12 points.
The Cowgirls will be back in action on Wednesday night when they travel to Columbia, Mo., for a 7 p.m. contest against the Missouri Tigers.
