Cowgirls Roll In Season Opener Against Rice

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's basketball team opened the 2011-12 campaign in impressive fashion with a 96-60 win over Rice on Sunday afternoon in front of 1,961 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The Cowgirls (1-0) sizzled offensively in the first half, connecting on 65 percent of their shots from the floor en route to a 58-point outburst. OSU's percentage was its highest in a half since hitting 72.4 percent of its shots against Columbia on Dec. 29, 2006. Four players reached double figures in the scoring column in the half to help stake the Cowgirls to a 58-27 lead at the break.
OSU's offensive output, which featured five players in double figures for the game, was its highest since scoring 98 points against Sam Houston State on Jan. 4, 2010. The Cowgirls hit 54.8 percent of their shots in the contest, while holding the Owls (0-2) to a 30.3 shooting effort.
Sophomore Kendra Suttles led the charge for OSU. The Lawton, Okla., native shattered her previous career-high point total of 12 through the game's first 20 minutes. Suttles drained nine of her 10 shot attempts to finish the half with 21 points. She finished with a game-high 27 points on a 12-of-14 shooting effort and added a career-high 12 rebounds for her second career double-double.
In addition to Suttles, sophomore point guard Tiffany Bias tallied a double-double of her own, finishing with 20 points and a career-high 12 assists.
Freshman Liz Donohoe was impressive in her Cowgirl debut, scoring 17 points to go with six rebounds and four assists. Sophomore Vicky McIntyre scored 13 points in just 14 minutes, while classmate Lindsey Keller came off the bench with 10 points of her own.
The Cowgirls will resume action on Nov. 19 when they host Grambling State at 2 p.m. in Stillwater.
