Stillwater, Okla. — The 2011-12 version of the Oklahoma State Cowboy Basketball team will open up the exhibition portion of its schedule this week as OSU hosts the Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 7 pm inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Oklahoma State returns six lettermen and two redshirt freshmen while bringing in five newcomers to the squad this season. Senior Keiton Page is the Cowboy captain and has started 65 consecutive games for OSU dating back to his sophomore season.
Also returning are Reger Dowell and Fred Gulley who will both compete for the starting point guard position. Dowell, a junior from Duncanville, Texas, started the final seven games last year and Gulley, a redshirt sophomore from Fayetteville, Ark., started 17 games as a true freshman and the first seven games of last year before a shoulder injury sidelined him for the season.
Junior wing Jéan-Paul Olukemi was the Cowboys' leading scorer during conference play last season, averaging 12.7 points against Big 12 foes. He started 11 games last year. Sophomore guard Markel Brown had one of the best freshman seasons by a Cowboy last year and started 10 league games for the Pokes, averaging 8.4 points in 16 conference contests.
Michael Cobbins and Brian Williams came to Oklahoma State a year ago, considered two of the top recruits in the region. Both redshirted last season, and are excited to begin the collegiate careers for the Cowboys.
Freshman Le'Bryan Nash begins his career at Oklahoma State as the highest-ranked recruit to ever wear a Cowboy uniform. The McDonald's and Parade All-American has the ability to play several different positions. Fellow freshman Cezar Guerrero will look for playing time in the Cowboys' backcourt.
Junior-college transfer Philip Jurick appears ready to start for OSU almost immediately, giving the Pokes a defensive presence in the paint. Freshman Marek Soucek, a rookie from the Czech Republic, is a 7-foot post player who can play along the perimeter as well.
As Oklahoma State enters the fourth season of the Travis Ford era, the Cowboys have more depth than they've had in several years. It all begins on Wednesday against the Aggies.
