The Orange team, led by freshman Le'Bryan Nash's 12 points, defeated the Black squad 32-23 in the Cowboy Basketball scrimmage portion of Homecoming & Hoops here Friday night inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. An estimated 12,000 students, alumni and fans watched as the 2011-12 version of Oklahoma State basketball unfolded.
Before the Cowboys took the court, Nash, sophomore Markel Brown and redshirt freshman Brian Williams took part in slam-dunk competition. Former Cowboys Desmond Mason, Andre Williams, Marcus Dove and Obi Muonelo served as judges.
Brown won the contest with a two-dunk total of 71. His 39 out of 40 points in the first round basically secured the victory. However, Williams initial dunk would have been assured a perfect score had he converted on a pass from the 200 level of the arena. Nash sported another orange foam Cowboy hat to the thrill of everyone in attendance.
In the exhibition 10-minute game, Williams led the Black team with nine points, including a pair of nice 360-degree dunks and a three-pointer. Junior Jéan-Paul Olukemi scored 8, while sophomore Fred Gulley had four and senior Darrell Williams scored two. Freshman Cezar Guerrero had a couple of nice assists. Junior center Philip Jurick had two big blocks on defense.
Senior guard Keiton Page paired with Nash nicely for the Orange squad, scoring 10 points while dishing out three assists. Brown added six points for Orange and redshirt freshman Michael Cobbins had four.
In the Cowgirls' exhibition game, the Orange team outlasted the Black squad 20-18 behind five points by true freshman Liz Donohoe. Fellow freshman LaShawn Jones led the Black team with six points.
