Oklahoma State Head Coach Travis Ford
“For 35 minutes I thought Iowa State was a step faster than us and I felt like we were just trying to chase those guys around. When a team makes seven threes in a row it's very deflating. You're sitting there watching it in the air and as it goes in and makes it, everyone's shoulders just slump. It takes a lot out of you. I've seen it on both sides. I've had teams that make a lot of threes and do it to other teams. Threes just give you so much momentum and it kills the other team. For 35 minutes that's what they were doing or shooting free throws. It was one of the two."
"The last four minutes of regulation I think we decided to pick up the pace a little bit. We decided to get some steals and some deflections and got after it a little bit. We tried to rattle them and get them out of their comfort zone rather than just let them pass it around and shoot. I told our guys that we just waited too long to do it. Then in overtime we got Markel's (Brown) layup, we executed and we didn't foul. That was key."
"I love the win. You've seen a lot out of us at this point. Playing Kansas State here and being down then coming back. We played bad at Texas A&M. We got up against Colorado and let one slip by. We were down pretty much the whole game and pulled out a great win. It could have gone the other way because Iowa State played well tonight."
"I have a lot of respect for what Fred (Hoiberg) is doing. Diante Garrett is one of the best players I've seen all year long, much less in the Big 12. He controls the game as well as I've seen anybody can control a game. He can pass, defend and shoot. He can do a lot. We won a game where we were behind most of the game."
"It's still early but this game can give us momentum. It's good to get a win and I want our guys to understand how we came back. And I want them to understand how we dug ourselves a hole. I want them to understand what makes us good and what makes us bad. We're playing in too many highs and lows. We're either jacked up making plays or (it's) like we're walking through mud. We need to eliminate the bad moments and keep the great moments. It was a good win and I hope it gives us confidence. We had a lot of guys play a lot of minutes. Roger Franklin gave us some good minutes tonight.”
Oklahoma State sophomore guard/forward Jean-Paul Olukemi
On the second half
“It's all about making plays at the right time. By being overly aggressive and making the right plays, we were able to get ahead in the game. “
On winning the game
“It was definitely a good win for us. Iowa State is a great team. They have a great point guard and they all shot the ball really well. A win like this definitely sparked something in us. We have to carry this one on to Baylor next.”
On Keiton Page's shot to tie the game
”That was a big shot for us. He makes that shot consistently at practice so he really stepped up in the game and got it done for us. We need that from him. I couldn't have been happier to see that go through the net.”
On the locker room after the game
“It feels good to have a win. To know that we gave it our all and played hard as a team, coming out with a win will definitely give us some momentum for our next game.”
Oklahoma State sophomore forward Roger Franklin
On Jamie Vanderbeken
“He was a 6-11 shooter and that's very rare. Going up against him was definitely a challenge for me. I have a point guard coming off the screen, we were all switching and sometimes we were trapping. It was somewhat of a gamble. I had to stay on my toes. Vanderbeken is a great player and he had an excellent game. He hit some big shots for his team. I knew I had a job to do and I had to get in that mindset to get it done.”
Iowa State Head Coach Fred Hoiberg
On the game
"We talked about it all week. This was going to be a game that we had to make the toughness plays and try to match their physicality. They're big and strong inside and they had 21 offensive rebounds. That's just too many second chances and they just dominated us 23-9 on second-chance points."
On giving OSU second chances
"We were on the verge of putting that game away and we just gave them second chances. We didn't get back in transition one time when we penetrated with Diante (Garrett), and you have to balance the floor. Those are things that we do every day but for whatever reason we didn't do that. All those little things add up and it will cost you the game."
On not putting the game away
"It's not about moral victories here. We had a chance to put a team away on the road and we didn't do it. We let them get back in it. We got up 10 at one point in the second half and that's when you have to find a way to kick them when they're down. We let them get back into the game with a couple shots and couldn't get a rebound. We stopped them on some initial actions, but the second-chance points killed us."
On Marshall Moses
"He's a beast in there. He controlled the game in the paint. He had five offensive rebounds and (Jéan-Paul) Olukemi got us for six."
