Cowgirl Netters Kick Off Fall Season

STILLWATER - The Oklahoma State women's tennis team opened its 2010-11 season with an impressive showing in doubles competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational Friday, where the Cowgirls took two of three doubles matches from a talented Georgia team.
Cowgirl veterans paired with newcomers in both of the decisive wins over the Bulldogs as senior Nataliya Shatkovskaya and freshman Kanyapat Narattana took down UGA's Lilly Kimbell and Maho Kowase, 8-4, and senior Sasha Belova and sophomore transfer C.C. Sardinha knocked off UGA's Alina Jerjomina and Cameron Ellis, 8-5.
Senior Sara Meghoufel and junior Alisa Buslaieva also competed on the double court for OSU, but fell to UGA's Alex Anghelescu and Kate Fuller, 8-1.
In addition to the doubles wins, Oklahoma State also picked up a pair of singles wins against the host Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
Meghoufel earned a tight three-set win over Georgia Tech's Caroline Lilly, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, while Belova took down Lynn Blau in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Shatkovskaya, Narattana, Sardinha and Buslaieva also competed in singles play against the Yellow Jackets, each falling in two sets.
The Cowgirls resume competition in the Georgia Tech Invitational Saturday, with the first serve of the day scheduled for 10 a.m.
