Cowgirls Drop Close Match to North Texas

TULSA, Okla. – The No. 59 Oklahoma State women's tennis team suffered its first dual loss of the year Sunday, falling to North Texas, 4-3, at Tulsa's Case Tennis Center.
North Texas went up 1-0 in doubles play by claiming wins at Nos. 2 and 3, but Cowgirls Nataliya Shatkovskaya and Kanyapat Narattana moved to 2-0 on the year with an 8-2 win over North Texas' Nadia Lee and Madura Ranganathan. OSU led 7-4 in the No. 2 match, but suffered a pivotal 9-7 loss to give NT the team point.
After the first three singles matches ended, the score was tied at 2-2. OSU earned points from C.C. Sardinha and Kanyapat Narattana, both 2-0 this year, at Nos. 3 and 4, while NT added to their total with a win at No. 2 singles.
The next match finished was the No. 6 spot, where Leyla Simmons dropped a two-set match to NT's Amy Joubert.
With two matches remaining, both in a third set, OSU would need to win both to earn the dual win.
Sarah Meghoufel, playing at No. 1, and Malika Rose, playing at No. 5, were both battling their opponents in close matches, but Meghoufel dropped her final set to give NT's Paula Dinuta the win, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, and the Mean Green the team victory.
Rose finished the day with a tiebreaker win over Barbora Vykydalova, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(3), to push her season dual record to 2-0 and make the final score 4-3, North Texas.
The Cowgirls, now 1-1, return to action next weekend as they travel to Waco, Texas to face Rice and either Baylor or Alabama.
