The Format
The old system that saw qualifying marks as the standard for NCAA qualification is now gone. The top 48 in each of the regions (east and west) qualifies for that region's respective Regional Championships.
In the 1,500 meters, the national first round and quarterfinals will be contested in Austin. The top five times from each heat, plus the next four fastest times in the first round will advance to the quarterfinals. The top five times plus the next two fastest times will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.
In the 5,000 meters and 3,000 meter steeplechase, the top five finishers from each heat plus the next two-fastest times will advance to Eugene.
The 10,000 meters will be a single heat with the top 12 times advancing to the next round.
For the triple jump, the qualifying and semifinal rounds will be contested in Austin.

The 2010 Championships were Kosgei's first Big 12 Outdoor Championships of his Cowboy career.
Junior Johnathan Stublaski won the 1,500 meters crossing the line just ahead of freshman teammate Tom Farrell.
The Cowgirls got points from Mihaela Susa in the 1,500 meters, Felicity Milton in the 5,000 meters and Clarissa Andrews in the triple jump.
Kosgei The Big 12's Best
With his two titles at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships, John Kosgei was named the Big 12 Outstanding Performer of the Year on May 19 by a vote of the league's coaches.
The Eldoret, Kenya, native missed the 2009 Big 12 Championships with an injury.
Oklahoma State has claimed the Big 12 Outstanding Performer of the Year each of the past two seasons. German Fernandez was awarded the honor a year ago.
NCAA Championships Experience
Of all of OSU's qualifiers to the NCAA Opening Rounds, only Colby Lowe has previous experience at the NCAA Championships.
Lowe finished 17th in the 5,000 meter prelims as a freshman last year with a time of 14:07.38.
John Kosgei missed the opportunity to qualify for last year's NCAA Championships after missing the NCAA Regionals with an injury.
