WILMINGTON, N.C. - Oklahoma State's women's golf team posted a 296 during its third round on Thursday at the NCAA Championship to remain tied for ninth place with one round remaining at the Country Club of Landfall.
"For the most part, we played well today. Caroline (Hedwall) played really well today." OSU head coach Annie Young said. "I am proud of the way the girls have played and handled themselves thus far in the tournament."
The Cowgirls have a 54-hole total of 885, 21-over par, and are tied with Florida State and Texas A&M heading into the final day of play. Purdue surged to the top of the leaderboard after firing an 8-under 280 for a 6-under total of 858. Second-round leader Southern California dipped into second place at 865.
Hedwall continued her move up the individual leaderboard, firing a 4-under 68 to move into sole possession of second place at 8-under 208. The sophomore is just one shot off the pace of Arizona State's Jennifer Johnson.
Starting on the back nine, Hedwall went out in 1-under 35 after making a birdie on her opening hole and following with eight consecutive pars. The Loddekopinge, Sweden native made her move early on the front side with birdies on the first four holes to get to 5-under par for the day. After four pars, Hedwall made her lone bogey of the day at the closing ninth hole.
Freshman Victoria Park moved into a tie for 28th place at 220 after carding a 1-over 73 on Thursday. Park birdied her third hole of the day, the par-5 12th, before posting bogeys at the 13th and 14th to turn at 1-over 37. Like Hedwall, the Irvine, Calif., native caught fire after making the turn with birdies on Nos. 1-4, but closed with four-straight bogeys to finish her inward nine at even par.
Freshman Hillary Wood stands in a tie for 65th place at 226 after posting a 75, while freshman Courtney McKim came in tied for 101st place after a third-round 80 gave her a 231 total.
