Susa Qualifies for 1,500 Meter Finals

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Cowgirl junior Mihaela Susa finished first in her heat and second overall in the 1,500 meter run preliminaries to qualify for the finals tomorrow.
"She looked great out there today," Head coach Dave Smith said. "She looked better than anyone else in the prelims. I think she has a great shot at winning the finals and a Big 12 Championship tomorrow."
Susa, who holds the third best time at the 1,500 meters in the NCAA, finished with a time of 4:24.38. Also competing in the 1,500 meter run was a posse of Cowgirls including Senior Natalia Kovtun who finished tenth with a time of 4:29.39.
The finals for the 1,500 meter run are set for Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
Junior Clarissa Andrews put OSU on the score board finishing sixth in the long jump adding three points to their score. Andrews notched a mark of 5.92m.
"I am really proud of Clarissa's performance today," Smith said. "Zivile Pukstiene has done a great job with her. She did a great job getting Clarissa prepared and she had her best day today. She came into the meet ranked 10th so to finish sixth was a good step up."
The Cowgirls will return to action tomorrow when members of the team will compete in the 5,000 meter run and the triple jump. Junior Felicity Milton, who finished eighth in the NCAA in the 5,000 meter during the indoor season, will be one of the OSU's top competitors for the event.
