The Basics
Oklahoma State's Cowboy and Cowgirl track and field teams return to action this weekend at the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
A New System
Gone is the old four-region NCAA Championship system that has been used for the past seven years. The new system features two regional sites and a final site, essentially making the NCAA Championships a two-weekend affair.
There are no longer regional and automatic qualifying marks, instead the top 48 in each region will advance to the regional. Each round, starting with the regional will have a national component. The first round of the regionals will be known as the NCAA Championships first round.
A Fast Start
Cowboy Johnathan Stublaski recorded the fifth-fastest time in the NCAA West Region with a 3:46.56 in the 1,500 meters at the Stanford Invitational.
Welcome to the Outdoor Season
The Cowboys and Cowgirls had a rude awakening to the outdoor season last weekend at the Tulsa Duels.
As a winter storm rolled through the state, the meet went on in a shortened scheduled. The teams battled temperatures lower than 20 degrees and snow that measured up to three inches.
Indoor Wrap-Up
Oklahoma State ended a successful indoor season at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., on March 12 and 13.
OSU entered in the men's 5,000 meters, the women's 5,000 meters and the women's mile. In all three events, OSU claimed All-Americans.
Colby Lowe and Felicity Milton were All-Americans in the 5,000 meters, while Mihaela Susa was an All-American in the mile.
Lowe also won his first Big 12 Championship in the 3,000 meters two weeks before.
