STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State held its annual academic awards banquet Monday night at the Wes Watkins Center on the OSU campus to honor the achievements of its student-athletes over the past year.
Highlighting the list of honorees were men's tennis standout Oleksandr Nedovyesov and Cowgirl equestrian rider Leah Kuehn, who were named the OSU Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, respectively.
Nedovyesov, who was named the 2009 ITA National Player of the Year, was also named an academic all-district selection and an ITA Scholar-Athlete. He has twice been named a first-team Academic All-Big 12 pick and has been listed on both the OSU President's and Dean's Honor Rolls. Nedovyesov graduated in December of 2009 with a degree in economics and is currently pursuing a master's degree in international studies.
A reserve national champion in 2007 and a national champion in 2008, Kuehn currently maintains a 4.0 GPA and has been on the President's Honor Roll every semester of her college career. In 2009, she was named an Equestrian Collegiate Association Scholar-Athlete. A recipient of the NCAA postgraduate scholarship, Keuhn was named an OSU Senior of Significance and will graduate with honors in May with degrees in animal science and agricultural communications.
From a team standpoint, several OSU squads were recognized for their achievements as seven sports earned all-academic status during the year.
The Cowboy cross country squad earned all-academic honors for the 12th-straight year and also took home the prestigious USTFCCCA Scholar Team of the Year.
Not far behind were the women's track, soccer, and cross country teams, which earned all-academic team honors for the eighth consecutive year. The Cowboy wrestling squad earned the distinction for the sixth consecutive year.
The Cowgirl soccer team's 14 Academic All-Big 12 selections tied them for first in the Big 12 Conference.
Across the board, OSU had 84 student-athletes earn academic All-Big 12 honors and four individuals receive postgraduate scholarships.
Additionally, OSU continues to lead the Big 12 Conference and rank fourth nationally over the past four years with its 58 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar Award winners.
During the fall and spring semesters combined, more than 160 student-athletes were named to either the OSU President's or Dean's Honor Roll.
During the spring of 2009, 213 student-athletes earned Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll honors, while 216 student-athletes earned the distinction in Fall 2009.
Individually, Cowgirl golfer Karin Kinnerud and Cowboy track standout Ryan Vail, were each recognized after being named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Americans in 2009.
