Nedovyesov Named Big 12 Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State men's tennis standout Oleksandr Nedovyesov was named the Big 12 Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the matches of April 12-18, it was announced Tuesday by the conference.
Nedovyesov, who has now received the player of the week honor five times in his career, faced three ranked singles opponents last week and swept them with convincing, straight-set victories at No. 1 singles. The senior also picked up three doubles wins in three contests, including two over ranked opponents.
After dominating the opposition all week, the 14th-ranked Nedovyesov had defeated Tulsa's No. 34 Marcelo Arevalo, 6-4, 6-3, Texas Tech's No. 15 Raony Carvalho, 6-4, 6-2, and Baylor's No. 16 Denes Lukacs, 6-4, 6-3.
With the wins over Carvalho and Lukacs, Nedovyesov is now 6-0 in 2010 when facing opponents ranked in the ITA top 20. He also improves his No. 1 singles record to 17-3 overall and 5-1 in Big 12 play.
The Alushta, Ukraine, native is now on a six-match winning streak at No. 1 singles, including a five-match streak over ranked opponents.
In doubles play, Nedovyesov, with teammate Eric West, knocked off Tulsa's Arevalo and Marko Ballok in his first match of week. He followed that performance and teamed with Aleksey Bessonov to defeat 20th-ranked Carvalho and Rafael Garcia of Texas Tech, as well as 34th-ranked Lukacs and Roberto Maytin and Baylor.
Nedovyesov returns to action when the Cowboys compete at the 2010 Big 12 Championship, scheduled for April 30-May 2, in Austin, Texas.
