She Just Needed One Last Chance
Mihaela Susa was the lone Cowgirl to make the trip to South Bend, Ind., for the Alex Wilson Invitational. An NCAA “Last Chance” meet, only athletes who had come close to notching qualifying marks in the season were allowed to enter.
Susa made the most of her opportunity, clocking a 4:36.38 in the mile for an NCAA automatic qualifying mark which is the sixth-best time in the country for 2010.
The Oklahoma State 3,000
Colby Lowe won his first Big 12 indoor title in the 3,000 meters on Feb. 27. His championship continued an impressive run of recent dominance at the distance for the Cowboys.
In 2008, Ryan Vail was the indoor conference champion in the 3,000 and German Fernandez followed with a Big 12 title at the same distance in 2009.
Success in Seattle
Two Cowboys and one Cowgirl grabbed NCAA Automatic Qualifying Marks at the Husky Classic in Seattle on Feb. 12 and 13.
Colby Lowe turned in the third-best time in the country for 2010 in the 5,000 meters at the event, while Felicity Milton chalked up the seventh-best time in the 5,000 meters for 2010 in Seattle.
German Fernandez, who will not compete at the NCAA Championships, added the third-best time in the 3,000 meters for 2010.

Colby Lowe competed at last year's NCAA Outdoor Championships and Mihaela Susa suited up at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Already a National Champion
Cowboy Colby Lowe has already won two national championships, though neither of them have come indoors.
Lowe was the 2009 USA Track and Field Junior National Champion in the outdoor 5,000 meters. In the fall of 2009, Lowe was an All-American on Oklahoma State's cross country national championship team.
