The Basics
One athlete each off Oklahoma State's Cowboy and Cowgirl track teams travels to South Bend, Ind., for the Alex Wilson Invitational.
Give Me One Last Chance
Saturday's meet will be scored as a “last chance” meet. Only those athletes who have previously been close on qualifying marks will be eligible. Raul Botezan looks to improve on his provisional qualifying mark in the 800 and Mihaela Susa looks to improve on hers in the mile.
The Oklahoma State 3,000
Colby Lowe claimed the Big 12 indoor crown in the 3,000 meters last Saturday, continuing an impressive recent domination for the Cowboys at the distance. With Lowe's title, OSU has won the last three indoor championships in 3,000 meters. Ryan Vail won it in 2008 and German Fernandez won it a year ago.
It's Automatic
Colby Lowe hit an NCAA automatic mark in the 5,000 meters with a time of 13:45.01, the third-best time in the country for 2010. German Fernandez's automatic mark came in the 3,000 meters in a time of 7:51.02. His time is the third-best time in the nation for 2010. Felicity Milton posted the seventh-best time in the nation in the 5,000 meters on her way to an NCAA automatic mark.
Making Provisions
Sophomore Colby Lowe and freshman Tom Farrell hit NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the 3,000 meters on Jan. 22 and Farrell improved his time at the Husky Classic. Sophomore Raul Botezan hit his first NCAA provisional mark as a Cowboy with a 4:00.73 in the mile. Cowgirl Mihaela Susa also notched an NCAA provisional mark in the 3,000 meters in Seattle.
