ORLANDO, Fla. - The No. 56 Oklahoma State women's tennis team wrapped up its competition at the Orlando Invitational this week, playing multiple singles and doubles matches against No. 30 Indiana and No. 49 Auburn.
After play was complete, each team had one winner based on a unique scoring system devised by the three coaches. Sasha Belova won for the Cowgirls, while Myriam Sopel won for Indiana and Fani Chifchieva won for Auburn.
"It was a great three day event for us competing against two teams that have been consistently ranked and are having successful seasons," coach Chris Young said. "Sasha was excellent in her play in both singles and doubles and our girls improved throughout the event."
Also worth noting for OSU is that Nataliya Shatkovskaya and Belova won the most games in doubles play throughout the event.
With the Orlando Invitational behind them, the Cowgirls move on to begin Big 12 play against the Baylor Bears, the top-ranked team in the nation, Friday at 2 p.m. in Waco, Texas.
"We are very excited to begin Big 12 play and have the opportunity to play against the number one team in the nation," Young said. "Our girls continue to improve and I believe they will play well."
The Bears have four athletes ranked in the ITA singles rankings, including No. 5 Lenka Broosova, No. 18 Nina Secerbegovic, No. 65 Taylor Ormond and No. 79 Csilla Borsanyi. Broosova and Borsanyi are also the No. 8 doubles team in the ITA poll.
The Cowgirls enter the match at 6-2, riding a three-match win steak, while the Bears are 11-2 and on a five-match win streak.
