Cowgirls Drop Match to Top-Ranked Baylor

WACO, Texas – The No. 56 Oklahoma State women's tennis team opened Big 12 Conference play against the No. 1 Baylor Bears Friday, falling 6-1, and moving to 6-3 (0-1) in 2010.
"It was a great opportunity for us to play the top-ranked team in the country at a time when they are playing their best tennis,” coach Chris Young said. “Our girls have definitely improved and, although the final score shows we have a lot of work still left, we are making progress and we will grow from this.”
The Cowgirls had an early deficit after losing all three doubles matches, including the No. 1 match to Baylor's eighth tanked tandem of Lenka Broosova and Csilla Borsanyi to go down 1-0.
Things didn't get any easier for OSU in singles play, as the Cowgirls were up against four Baylor athletes ranked in the ITA singles poll, including No. 5 Broosova, No. 18 Nina Secerbegovic, No. 65 Taylor Ormond and No. 79 Borsanyi at the No. 1, 2, 3 and 4 spots, respectively.
The Bears earned wins at No. 1, 2 and 3 singles, but Cowgirl junior Sarah Meghoufel claimed a straight-set, upset win over Borsanyi, 6-3, 6-0, to earn the team point for the Cowgirls.
“I am so proud of Sarah,” Young said. “That is what I have expected from her since she arrived, but she's just now finding her game after sitting out last semester. Hopefully this is just the beginning for her.”
Baylor also won at No. 5 and 6 singles, bringing the final score to 6-1.
Oklahoma State resumes competition at noon Sunday, facing Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas.
