STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's basketball team will make its 10th NCAA Tournament appearance it was announced tonight. The Cowgirls earned a No. 4 seed and will play in the Sacramento Regional.
The Cowgirls will take on 13th-seeded Chattanooga (24-8) in the first round and will play in Tempe, Ariz. Tip time is set for 7:11 p.m. (CST) on Saturday and the game will be televised by ESPN2 and will also be available on ESPN360.
For head coach Kurt Budke's squad, the berth marks the third time in the last four years it has played in the NCAA Tournament. OSU's No. 4 seed is the second highest in program history after competing as a No. 3 seed in 2008.
"We're excited about it. The committee told us they would reward us for what we accomplished this year," Budke said. "Sometimes, if you have an injury, you worry about them dropping you down a seed or two because of that. The committee kept their word and we're happy with the No. 4 seed."
OSU has set several new standards this season en route to their 23-10 record. The Cowgirls have won a school record six games this season against nationally ranked teams and also achieved the program's highest-ever ranking at No. 10 in February. OSU enjoyed an 11-game winning streak this year, which was the second longest in program history.
The Cowgirls last NCAA appearance two years ago resulted in the program's second Sweet 16 appearance. Overall, OSU has made four-straight postseason appearances after last year's WNIT showing.
In addition to the Cowboy basketball team's selection to the men's tournament, the Cowgirls' berth marks the first time since 1995 both teams have made the NCAA Tournament field.
