STILLWATER, Okla. - The brackets are out for the 2010 NCAA Wrestling Championships and Big 12-champion Oklahoma State has nine wrestlers in the field, eight of whom garnered national seeds.
OSU's highest seeds come at 141 pounds and 285 pounds, where Jamal Parks and Jared Rosholt both earned the No. 2 seed in their respective weight classes. Parks won the Big 12 title and Rosholt was ranked No. 1 in the nation for most of the second part of the season.
Other Cowboys with high seeds are 133-pounder Jordan Oliver, who is the No. 4 seed in his weight class, 184-pounder Clayton Foster, who is the No. 5 seed in his weight class after winning the Big 12 championship, and 174-pounder Mike Benefiel, who is the No. 6 seed in his weight class.
Both 125-pounder Chris Notte and 165-pounder Alex Meade enter the NCAA Championships as the No. 10 seed in their respective weight classes, with 157-pounder Neil Erisman tagged as the No. 11 seed in his weight class. Sophomore 197-pounder Alan Gelogaev is the lone unseeded Cowboy included in the NCAA field.
Oliver has was could be an interesting path to the championship. If the seeds hold, Oliver could face No. 4 Boris Novachkov of Cal Poly in the quarterfinals and No. 1 Jayson Ness in the semifinals. Novachkov and Ness are the only two wrestlers to beat Oliver this year.
Erisman has some excitement immediately, as his first-round bout is a rematch with Binghamton's Justin Lister and his second round bout if seeds hold would be against No. 6 Dustin Schlatter of Minnesota. Schlatter defaulted out of the Big Ten Championships and lost to Cowboy 165-pounder Alex Meade in a dual meet early in the season.
The lone Oklahoma State vs. Iowa bout of the first round comes at 197 pounds, where Gelogaev will lock up with ninth-seeded Hawkeye Chad Beatty.
The NCAA Championships will be held from March 18-20 at the Qwest Center in Omaha, Neb.
