Last Time vs. Kansas in Stillwater
Despite a 13-12 record overall and a 4-7 mark in league play, Oklahoma State gave the fourth-ranked Kansas Jayhawks everything they could handle, sparking the Cowboys to a 61-60 win on Feb. 23, 2008. It would be KU's last loss of their national championship season.
Byron Eaton scored 26 points, including 16-of-18 at the free-throw line, while Obi Muonelo added 12 for OSU. The Cowobys made 8-of-17 shots from long range while limiting the Jayhawks to just 2-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc.
Despite being outrebounded by Kansas 34-21, OSU forced 21 turnovers by the 'Hawks.
Darnell Jackson had 16 points and 10 rebounds for KU, but Brandon Rush, the Jayhawks' leading scorer, was just 5-of-16 from the floor and finished with 12 points.
Against No. 1
Oklahoma State is 2-6 all-time against the top-ranked team in the country, including a 2-1 mark inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. The last victory OSU had over a No. 1 team was on Feb. 4, 1989, when the Cowboys upset top-ranked Oklahoma 77-73 in Stillwater.
Twice Oklahoma State lost to the No. 1 team in the country at the Final Four. The then-Aggies lost to Kentucky on March 26, 1949, in the championship game of the NCAA Tournament. On April 1, 1995, OSU lost to UCLA in the Final Four.
Three of the last four times Oklahoma State has played the No. 1 team in the country, the game was against Kansas.
Scoring Machines
Combined with the Cowgirls' Andrea Riley (25.5 points per game), the duo has a chance to become just the third pair of players from the same school to lead the Big 12 in scoring in league history. Cory Carr and Alicia Thompson of Texas Tech both led the league in scoring in 1996-97 and again in 1997-98. Both averaged better than 23 points per game in each of those two seasons.
No duo in the country is averaging more than Anderson and Riley's 48 points per game. Corin Adams (19.1 ppg) and Reggie Holmes (21.9 ppg) from Morgan State are second at 41 points per game. Stanford's Landry Fields (22.2 ppg) and Nnemkadi Ogwumike (18.6 ppg) are third. The fourth-best scorind duo in the country is Evan Turner (19.5 ppg) and Jantel Lavender (20.7 ppg) from Ohio State.
Anderson Named to Midseason Lists
James Anderson was named to the midseason John R. Wooden Award Top 30 list, announced the first week of January. The Cowboy junior was inexplicably left off the preseason list, but rightly added after the holiday break. Anderson is one of five players from the Big 12 Conference mentioned on the list, which also includes Texas' Damion James and the Kansas trio of Cole Aldrich, Sherron Collins and Xavier Henry. This marks the 10th time in the last 12 seasons that an OSU has been mentioned on the Wooden Award list, given annually to the nation's top player. Anderson joins Bryant Reeves (1995), Adrian Peterson (1999), Desmond Mason (2000), Maurice Baker (2002), John Lucas (2004, 2005), Joey Graham (2005), JamesOn Curry (2006, 2007) and Mario Boggan (2007) as Cowboys named to the Wooden Award list.
Anderson was also named a Naismith Trophy Midseason candidate on Wednesday. He is one of five players from the Big 12, joining Texas' Damion James, Kansas State's Jacob Pullen, and Cole Aldrich and Sherron Collins of Kansas.
