Cowboys' Bedlam Win Streak Ends at 20

NORMAN, Okla. – The No. 32 Oklahoma State men's tennis team's 20-match win streak against Oklahoma came to end Sunday, as the Cowboys fell to the 44th-ranked Sooners at the Gregg Wadley Tennis Pavilion, 4-3, in a non-conference match.
The Cowboys, who hadn't lost to Oklahoma since 1995, earned the first team point in doubles play. Oleksandr Nedovyesov and Aleksey Bessonov, the No. 18 doubles team, quickly took care of Oklahoma's David Pultr and Costin Paval at No. 1, 8-1, before Ilija Martinoski and Maxi Kuhn knocked off Oklahoma's Lawrence Formentera and Ionut Beleleu, 8-3, to make the score 1-0 in favor of the Cowboys.
Nedovyesov, ranked No. 10 in the ITA singles rankings, also earned a big, quick win in the No. 1 singles match, defeating Oklahoma's Andrei Daescu, who ranks No. 11 in the poll, in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
Oklahoma then earned its first team point at No. 6 singles before Bessonov beat Oklahoma's Pultr in straight sets at the No. 4 spot, making make the score 3-1, Oklahoma State.
The Sooners answered with wins at No. 5 and 3 singles to tie the score at 3-3 with only the No. 2 singles match remaining.
After a long, three-set battle with a tiebreaker in second set, Oklahoma's Beleleu, ranked No. 84, defeated No. 65 Anton Bobytskyi, 6-2, 7-6(4), 6-3, to give the Sooners their first Bedlam win in 15 years.
The Cowboys return to action as they travel to Louisville, Ky., to face Western Michigan Feb. 26 and Louisville Feb. 27.
