Cowgirls Roll Past Grambling 84-40

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's basketball team moved to 2-0 on the year with an 84-40 win over Grambling State on Thursday night in front of 2,006 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
For the second consecutive game, the Cowgirls were impressive at the defensive end of the floor, limiting the Tigers (0-4) to 12 points on a 3-of-25 effort from the floor in the first half.
"I thought our intensity was better and I think our defense is pretty good right now. We're scrambling, hustling, blocking shots, getting deflections and doing things on defense that's going to give us a chance to win ballgames," OSU head coach Kurt Budke said.
The Cowgirls opened the game with a 12-2 run and kept GSU in single digits until the 1:53 mark of the first half. Behind sophomore Toni Young's 10 points in the first half, OSU led 41-12 at the intermission. The Del City, Okla., native recorded her second-straight double-double, finishing with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
OSU owned the glass, outrebounding the Tigers by a 59-31 count. Despite committing 24 turnovers of their own, the Cowgirls forced GSU into 26 miscues in the contest, scoring 22 points off those turnovers.
"We are making a lot of mistakes offensively right now. We're not all on the same page, but they give me everything they have and at the end of the night it's a 44-point win," Budke said. "We held a team to 40 points. We'll take it and move on to the next one."
Freshman Tiffany Bias led all scorers with 17 points to go with four assists and three steals, while fellow freshman Kendra Suttles (11 points) and junior Carolyn Blair-Mobley (10 points) also reached double figures in the scoring column.
Senior Precious Robinson narrowly missed matching Young's double-double performance, turning in a 9-point, 12-rebound effort.
The Cowgirls will return to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. when they host Centenary.
