Oklahoma State Postgame Quotes

vs. Oklahoma City Stars
Head Coach Travis Ford
“Darrell (Williams) had some flashes of doing some good things. Some of the things he did wrong are things we've been telling him about. You just can't do that at this level as far as being soft around the basket. He had 15 points and really he should have had around 20. At these exhibition games, we'll be looking at the negatives more than the positives. No question he gave us a lift. In the second half, he decided he was going to rebound and play 6-7, 245 pounds and play to his abilities. You saw him go up above the rim and play the way he's capable. We're just looking for him to do it for two halves and 30 minutes a game rather than about 15.”
“Everything I saw tonight was as expected. I was hoping and praying a little bit that they would surprise me. You're dealing with a group of guys who are still figuring out their identity as a team and figuring out each other. Every one of our players, even Keiton Page, has a new role from what they did last year. Every player, except for maybe the point guards, has a different role. Even Marshall (Moses) has a different role because last year there were post players and this year he knows he's going to play. That might change if we get Matt (Pilgrim) back.”
“I've asked Matt to rejoin our team. He'll start practicing Wednesday if he continues to do the things that we've asked him. He has done a good job during his suspension. We'll see where he is on Wednesday.”
“As much as I would have loved for us to go out there and play well, this was a little dose of humility and it will help us get better and help us learn and see the mistakes that we're making. Now our guys can really get down to getting better. We've been preaching about it for two weeks now and I don't think they've really grasped it. Now that they see it against someone else, it's a great learning lesson that we can use. I didn't even address the team after the game. We'll start correcting our mistakes Wednesday morning. If we could be here in the morning we would, but we have to take off tomorrow. But we'll start Wednesday morning correcting some of these mistakes. There are plenty of them to start correcting.”
Sophomore center Jarred Shaw
“It (his improvement) started with me in the off-season. They told me to build my energy up. I need to come in and play defense. We are not satisfied. We have to work on our defense. In the Big 12, we are not going to be able to win a game with the defense tonight.”
Junior forward Darrell Williams
“I was just trying to get used to it (the speed of the game). (It was my) first time in the Big 12 and everything was moving fast, but I had to slow down and play my game. It was very frustrating, but I had to keep my head and keep going.”
“We are just trying to fit in with the team. You have to find the right place with the ball and get into the right situations. I have to get comfortable with my team and know what they are going to do.”
OCU Head Coach Kevin Morrissey
“First off, I'd like to just thank Coach Ford and OSU for allowing us to come up and play them. It's a great environment. It's always a big opportunity for our players at our level and I'd just like to thank OSU for their hospitality.”
On the game
“I thought we shot the ball really well the first and second half. We had an injury a couple weeks ago with another perimeter player – a young man by the name of C.J. Busby. They were able to make plays and still play at a high level and we just really weren't able to sustain that. I didn't call enough timeouts when they made that run early in the second half. I felt like we played pretty well, but OSU was able to play really good defense and hold us to just one-and-dones in the second half, a lot of run outs, a lot of easy baskets.”
On OSU's new players
“I've read in the papers that they're very deep and athletic. I wasn't sure who their starting five was going to be. Quite frankly, there was not that much drop off from their first five right into their sixth through ninth man. They're athletic. They're quick and they make good passes. I was real impressed. I think they're going to do real well. They're going to do a great job this year and they're going to be just fine.”
