BRYAN, Texas-The No. 3 Oklahoma State equestrian team fell to the second-ranked Texas A&M Aggies 14-11 in a tightly contested battle at the Brazos County Expo Center Saturday.
"It was a tight competition today just like the score reflects," coach Larry Sanchez said. "I am proud of the way the girls are riding and the unity they are showing as a team."
The Cowgirls defeated the Aggies in reining by a 3-2 margin, with Rachel Houchin leading the way with a 69. Caroline Daniels and Jenna Blumer both added head to head victories. Christy McElreath picked up an MVP for her ride in the discipline.
The western team fell to the Aggies, 6-5, scoring three ties in head to head competition. Marissa Dalton scored a 75 and Lauren Halvorson scored a 73 as both riders picked up wins in horsemanship. Dalton received MVP honors for her performance.
Samantha Harrison, Sammy Elser and Jordan White all won their head to head rides in equitation over fences, but it wasn't enough as the Aggies picked up four points to seal the victory in the discipline.
White won her second matchup of the day when she scored a 77 in equitation on the flat. Ellie Sparks and Allison Rose joined her as Cowgirls to receive team points in the discipline.
The Cowgirls return to action when they travel to Manhattan, Kansas, to take on the Kansas State Wildcats Friday.
