Cowgirls Knock Off Wildcats, 12-7

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The fourth-ranked Oklahoma State equestrian team picked up its second Big 12 win of the season, knocking off the Kansas State Wildcats, 12-7 at Timbercreek Stables Friday.
"I am very proud of how the girls rode today," coach Larry Sanchez said. "We still have some work to do but I am proud of where we are at this point in the season".
The English team kicked off the day with a 3-2 victory in equitation over fences. Samantha Harrison highlighted the discipline, earning an 86 for her ride. The freshman picked up the first MVP of her collegiate career for her performance, improving to 2-1 on the season in equitation over fences. Erin Prutow also earned her second victory of the season, winning her head-to-head matchup 81-79. Sammy Elser improved to 3-2 on the year with an 82-78 victory over her Wildcat counterpart.
Oklahoma State saw another 3-2 advantage in individual points in equitation on the flat, giving the hunter seat a 6-3 victory on the day. Senior Alice White and junior Jordan White each earned their fourth head-to-head win of the year in the discipline. Alice rode her way to a 67-65 victory while Jordan held up a 59-51 advantage. Ellie Sparks also picked up an individual win with her 73-69 triumph. With the win the hunter seat team improves to 3-2 on the season.
The Cowgirls continued their dominance on the western side of things, defeating the Wildcats 6-4. Senior Ashley Kennedy recorded her second head-to-head win on the year with a 72.5 score in horsemanship. Marissa Dalton added an individual victory with a 72.5 ride and redshirt freshman Lauren Halvorson improved to 5-0 with a half-point victory, 73-72.5.
Oklahoma State finished off the Wildcats with a 3-2 victory in reining. Senior Bri Parnell led the way with a 73.5 in the discipline, earning her second MVP of the season. Junior Caroline Daniels and Rachel Houchin added head-to-head wins, with both remaining undefeated on the year. The OSU reiners improve to 5-0 on the season with the win. The western team is now 4-1 on the season and has now outscored its opponents 32-15 through five shows. They have also earned nine out of the possible ten MVP honors this season.
