Cowgirls Defeat Delaware State, 14-5

STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State equestrian team capped off the fall semester with a 14-5 victory over the Delaware State Hornets at Animal Science Arena Saturday.
"It is great to end the fall with a win," coach Larry Sanchez said. "The girls rode well and our horses ended up in great shape. I'm very pleased with the way things turned out for the fall and we're excited to start back in January."
The Cowgirls kicked off the day with a 5-0 trouncing in equitation over fences. Senior Alice White led all riders with an 85-65 head-to-head victory. Freshman Samantha Harrison followed with an 84-82 win over her DSU counterpart. Harrison earned an MVP for her performance. Senior Erin Prutow, sophomore Ellie Sparks and freshman Sammy Elser all added head-to-head points in the discipline.
White picked up her second win on the day, this time with an 86-78 win in equitation on the flat. Freshman Ali Rose added a head-to-head point but the Hornets took the discipline by 3-2 score.
The western team continued their winning ways, rolling to a 7-2 victory over the Hornets. Christy McElreath led the reining squad with a 71-68.5 head-to-head win over her Delaware State counterpart. Her ride was good enough to garner MVP honors. Senior Bri Parnell, junior Caroline Daniels and freshman Jenna Blumer each recorded points for the Cowgirls in the discipline.
Mamie Tomlin scored a 73.5 for her performance in horsemanship, the highest score of the day on the western side. The junior earned an MVP for her ride. Senior Courtney Whitacre and sophomore Marissa Dalton both added wins to give the Cowgirls a 3-1 victory in the discipline.
