COLDWATER, Kan. - A pair of former Cowgirl basketball players will participate in the second annual WEPAC Hoops for Hope charity game at South Central High School in Coldwater, Kansas on Oct. 29. Megan Byford and Ally Clardy, both of whom competed on OSU's NCAA Tournament team, will take part in this year's contest.
The event began last year to benefit the women of five Kansas communities by helping provide for cancer-preventative care. Ninety percent of the proceeds, including ticket sales, apparel, concessions, raffles, contests and sponsorships will go to the WEPAC Alliance, which provides these services for women in the towns of Wilmore, Englewood, Protection, Ashland and Coldwater. The remaining 10 percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.
Last year's event raised $70,000 with the goal for the 2010 event being set at $100,000.
The rosters for each team are comprised of six local and eleven "celebrity" players. Several players with Big 12 ties as well as WNBA players will be involved with the game. Among those participating will be Sheryl Swoopes and Jackie Stiles.
The game will tip at 7 p.m. and will be televised by Fox Sports Midwest.
