Stillwater, Okla. — Oklahoma State held its annual Homecoming & Hoops Friday night and the event was a rousing success. The evening culminated with the Orange team defeating the Black squad 38-33 in a 10-minute, running clock scrimmage.
The event began with a drum performance and introductions of head football coach Mike Gundy, linebacker Orie Lemon, wide receive Josh Cooper and kicker Dan Bailey. The group Acrodunk performed on two occasions with their high-flying trampoline dunking routine.
The Cowgirl Basketball squad, under the direction of head coach Kurt Budke, held a 10-minute scrimmage prior to the men's team doing the same.
During the Cowboys' scrimmage, all 14 players who participated in the game hopped on the scoreboard. The Orange team's victory came thanks to the play of post players Marshall Moses and Darrell Williams. Both scored 10 points, including a pair of three-pointers for each.
Freshman Markel Brown led the black team with nine points, followed by Ray Penn's eight. Jean-Paul Olukemi and Jarred Shaw scored six points each in the losing battle.
It was quite a display as neither team missed very many shots. One of the biggest concerns going into the 2010-11 season was who would pick up the scoring slack left by the departures of James Anderson and Obi Muonelo. Both teams made several treys as well as drives to the basket.
The Cowboys will open the exhibition portion of the schedule on Monday, Nov. 1, as OSU hosts Oklahoma City University at 7 p.m.
